Losing interest (Problems)

by Steven E DuCharme, Thursday, September 15, 2005, 13:34 (7156 days ago)

I think I may be losing my mind. I can't/don't want to motivate myself to come here. Just wanted to get that off my chest.

Preshaps not wasting too much time on chess is the sane option. Maybe anyone who comes here is loosing there mind, but somehow I can't quite give chess up ....

Mr. Goldberg will be heaving a sigh of relief, when he reads Steven & Malcolm's remarks - 2 less to worry about when the year's up & we haven't improved!
the 1st obvious point about improvement is that you must study regularly!
I feel like giving up, too, sometimes, especially when I think that I ought to beat every1 after having studied chess for a while. The problem is that the opponents study it too & so it's difficult to notice any improvement.
You can compare it to learning your native english - At first you learn it at home for 4 - 6 years & you improve slowly. Then you go to school & you don't seem to improve at all for a year or two, even though you are now studying it at school as well as practising at home.
any1 play on the net? maybe we could swap notes on the good/bad points of various sites?
all the best, siegrun

I play on 22 correspondence sites. I don't play "real time" chess.

22 eml chess sites?

I didn't think there were that many!

I play on chessWorld.net. You could play hundreds of games on the one site, why so many? & do you have to pay for the priviledge of getting a grade? Chessworld is free for first timers but after a while its better to pay.

I've been to many up & coming real-time sites, where you play for free, but as soon as they've gathered a few hundred players, they want money!
When you buy a fritz CD you get a 1 year membership of playchess.com. But chessbase allow some countries free entry. I'm lucky to be a member of the Scottish association & can play for free. It's a good site - they don't have adverts. They have lots of chat sites, but you can turn them all off. What I especially like it their map of the world where you can see lights for all the players. Some players pretend to live in the ocean or the north pole - they're usually Germans.
