HGIYC Archive? (General)

by Fischead, Wednesday, April 13, 2005, 03:26 (7551 days ago)

Is there a way for the administrators to archive the HGIYC games, for I am not sure if I have downloaded all the games thus far in a timely format. To date, I have downloaded 4 games (short.hgc, nenashev.hgc, miles.hgc and hgiyc6.hgc) What games am I missing if any and how can I download them?

Much thanks

I have two other files, baklan3.hgc and hgiyc5.hgc, but missing your short.hgc.

It would be nice to get the missing file but it cold be that your are expected to work on one each week like an online lesson. It take me two hour to go trough one game so its hard to find time more than 1-2 evening each week and some you don't find this time neither and have to catch up with two games in the weekend.
The other exercises (tactic) I empty the bottle the first week, maybe because I'm used to do some tests with CT-Art quite regulary.

I agree it would be handy if the game files were available, as I've only got 4. I think I'm missing at least a couple of these. If they're not available in archive, perhaps we could get the games we're missing via e-mail, either from the site itself, or other members.

Regards,

Jim.

:-) Thanks to all who responded, we now have shared all the games between us :-)

Just for the record there were four "named" files, miles, short, baklan3, & nenashev. After that they have been numbered hgiyc5 -> hgiyc11. If you missed any you only need to ask ;-)

Good luck to all

Maybe it was an idea to offer a e-mail service for these games since you anyhow need to download them. It shouldn't take too many hours to create such a system, I'm sure they use more on answering e-mails from people who have missed a lesson. Maybe they allready have such a system ready since we are getting these Newsletter/Bulletin's.

Maybe I cry a little for my ill mother because I know I will be away much this month and probably more in the summer holliday, got to travel to some longer tournament to see if I have learned something (longest is a 10 day).
If a game is up so short as the Djurhuus-Gausel game (3-4 days) I know I will miss some.

I have already requested this facility from the site managers and they explained there are copyright difficulties in generating an archive. :-(
No further explanation!

I have now discovered that I have also missed hgiyc games despite attempting to religously "grab" everything. Maybe we should set up an independant "archive" amongst ourselves. I have 6 files and guess I have missed 2 [baklan.hgc & hgiyc7.hgc]. Please email me with these files if you have them robparker@chess5.fsnet.co.uk I will send any you have missed :-)

The point is that the author is unwilling for his games to have more than one week's exposure but we are negotiating the situation and are hopeful of a beneficial outcome.

I can understand this. In any case, technically you are not entitled to HGIYC that were posted before you joined. However you should be able to have access to those produced after you joined. I will be away for 5 weeks in the year and that's too many to miss. Having said that, one per week is an exceptional deal - on top of everything else - considering the price of the author's books on the subject. This site is good value for money and there is an obvious desire to make it so and to make real improvement in it's members' chess achievement. Well done team.
