Martin's book (Openings)

by Ronald J Suarez @, Friday, May 26, 2006, 01:33 (6903 days ago)

I just renewed my subscription :-D

When I renewed there was an option to pay a bit more and receive a book by Martin. I went ahead and got it.

Now, what is this book?

How do I get it?

Thanks,

Ron Suarez

There still seems to be some strange fallout from the whole DNS fiasco with the Internet provider. Tony is aware of the issue as he emailed me to find out if I received the book, which I have not. He told me he would email it to me so I suspect he will do the same for others who renew for two years.

Yes, the DNS info on the WorldPay site still wasn't refreshed until this morning so anyone who subscribed last night probably hasn't got the book. I will email it to everyone who paid for it later this afternoon. :-)
I assume anyone who subscribed today got the book OK?

It describes lines of a non-traditional opening that you can use when playing people that are more 'book trained' than you are, thus putting them 'out of book' early in the game and forcing them to think rather than playing out a sequence of memorized moves.

I have used it a few times already. I even got a snicker from one opponent. A couple of moves later he was down a pawn and behind in development.

I think it is called the 'B Formula' because it isn't the best opening you can do. It does not start with any of the traditional moves you would expect.

It is a repertoire book recommending 1...b6 as Black against anything, and 1 b4 to open. It is written in a fairly friendly style (typical Andy Martin) with lots of explanation of plans, and tests to see whether you have understood everything.
I guess it could prove useful to anyone looking for an easy-to-remember offbeat opening system, that is stronger than its reputation.
