HGIYC (Openings)
I have the HGIYC entries starting from my subscription start date (February 2007), plus the two sets of twenty that are available by purchase from the ebook store. Is there any way I can obtain (by purchase, or otherwise) the missing entries (numbers 41 through 58)?

I will try to put a 3rd volume up for sale in the shop in a couple of weeks' time.
I would love to have them all on the site to download free, like the Strategy stuff, say, but our contract with Daniel King only allows us to leave them online for a short while.

Daniel King has said that we can also have HGIYC files in ChessBase format if we prefer, the only problem being that they have already appeared on ChessBase magazine in the last year or so.
I suppose I could post one to see, what do you all think?

My vote goes to ChessBase format as well

If they could be available as a pgn too that would be ideal for me as I'm usually on a mac...also the fact that they have previously appeared elsewhere doesn't matter at all to me.

Yes, they could easily be made available as PGN files, but then it will lose the ability to test you every move, and award points.

Hasn't anyone anything to say about the HGIYC files?

I couldn't get the ChessBase file to work.
I'm using ChessBase Light and, despite looking at the help files and searching online, couldn't get it to work. The first question comes up fine but the others don't follow.
However I do prefer the board in Chessbase and the timer is a good idea. If I was able to get it to work then I would prefer the Chessbase Training format. Until then, I would vote for the old format.

I just had a go with CB Light 2007 (not the old version), and it worked OK, as long as I first opened the (archived) database and then clicked on the game.

Thanks Tony. I'm using CB Light 2007. I suspect one of the settings somewhere is wrong.
I'll keep looking.

I'd love to get these in chessbase or pgn, so I can go over them again afterwards and move backwards and forwards, and write the variations in - the HGIYC format obviously only lets you go forwards, and doesn't put the variations on the board. That way one would get more value out of Daniel King's annotations

I ' ve just went through Cvek-Akobian in Chessbase training format. I prefer this format by far.
Greetings.

Hope it is not too late to vote - just joined yesterday!
I vote for ChessBase format, which is (no offense for your proprietary interface) 100 times better! Much easier to handle with my Fritz, and nobody is forced to cash money out to buy Fritz/ChessBase/... given there is the option of using CB Light.
Please Please Please
Cheers,
Andrea

Seems to me that everyone is voting for the CB format, and I think it only fair to assume that those who didn't give their opinion agree, for as one of my teachers used to say: "silence gives consent"!

We just received a question from Duncan asking: "Re: danny kings hgiyc exercise: how do i see the score that d king has equated to different levels (gm, im, ...?"
Which is a very good question! So we asked GM King, and he answered:
"Oh...I suppose that is a drawback of the ChessBase method - there is no table. He will just have to self-evaluate!"
So, just in case anyone else was wondering ...!

ah come on (and hello again me kosten!) - all he needs to do is add the text of the table to the last annotation. i might have got my first gm on the last excercise and that sor to thiing matters to me! :)
and whilst i'm at it - can we get some correlation between percentages in the tactics gym and elo?
thanks

OK, I've just posted two more HGIYC games, one in each format, and I will decide which one we use in the future in a couple of weeks. So far the ChessBase format seems to be the heavy favourite, if you don't agree please say so now, and which ever you do prefer it would be nice to know why.
Thanks!

I would have liked to have done this years before, but we didn't have permission from Mr King, but we've since worked out an arrangement.
