October 2007 Intermediate Puzzle 2 Solution

A25
Kurz R. (2060)
Reuter P. (1970)

18... Be4 19. f7+? (Rxg2 is the best move here) Kf8 20. Bxd8?? (again Rxf2 was the better choice, it is obvious this is a blunder) Nh3# 0-1.

But you were supposed to be looking for Black's moves, which were all the best in the position!! :-) I'm afraid there is nothing you can do if your opponent doesn't play the most precise moves, in fact, the more mistakes he makes the easier it is for you to win!

I see your point. Agreed black's moves were all the best.
I just had problems building up my Analysis tree from start position and finding best opponents responses (like i think one must always do in real games) too good if our opponents does not play accuracy, indeed!

Thanks Tony.

Given all the difficulties with the Chess Publishing site I think we would all understand if they are out a little later than expected.

I always put them online in the first week of the new month. :-)

Intermediate February 2006 puzzle 27
Palevic
Dilic
Corr.
1983
The solution proposed Rh8+ is good and force mate in 8.
But i did find a better one :-D :
Bh7+!! Kh8 Bf5+ Kg8 Rdh4 (black can interpose a couple of meaningless checks here) f6 Be6+ Rf7 Rh8#.
I claim my solution is better because is quicker (in 7).
However my move was rejected: "Sorry - that is not the correct answer!" :-|

Yes, you're right! Your solution is quicker ... although not nearly so attractive! Still, you certainly have a point and it was to avoid such problems that we started checking all the problems with a strong analysis motor before putting them online some years ago.
Bravo anyway! ;-)
