novice level (General)

by Dale H, Sunday, January 04, 2009, 17:52 (5946 days ago)

I am new to chess. I have been playing with a friend by email. I started in the tactics gym in the novice area. I am working my way through the sections.

I just read about your recommendation to do one section a week. Do you mean to repeat the section a few times that week until proficient?

Also I get scored at the end of the section thus: "So far you have completed X puzzles..." This score has no meaning for me. Is my score kept somewhere for later comparison? What do I do with it?

So far I am getting most but not all of the puzzles the first time around. Some seem quite difficult for the novice. Do I persist?

Sorry to be so naive. I am wondering if I have made a mistake by climbing onto this website :-D .

No, once should be fine. However, if you're really keen, and you have the time, you can do several sections a week.

Yes, we keep your scores in our database so we can keep an eye on you if necessary (!), but really the score is to give you an idea of whether you are improving or not.

? So far I am getting most but not all of the puzzles the first time around.

Yes!
