Talent? (General)

by siegrun @, Sunday, August 07, 2005, 10:11 (7195 days ago)

anyone using the above word ought to put a penny into the swear box! The word 'talent' has been invented by unfortunate teachers who didn't know what they were doing!
The reason why you're good at something is because you've learned to use your grey cells successfully in that particular field.
I've just been reading about young Reshevsky & his childhood success. 'Miraculously' he became so good that he could defeat lots of amateurs at a very tender age. So, it had nothing to do with the fact that his whole family played, nothing to do with the fact that he was the youngest of a large family? And its just a coincindence that Judit is the youngest of 3 sisters & the most successfull?
So far we've only used this forum to complain about the site - I wonder if anyone feels like discussing other subjects?
I hope someone will contradict me, so that I can give you more reasons why 'talent' is just a fictitious word.
