Talent? (General)

by Davar @, Monday, August 15, 2005, 23:29 (7187 days ago) @ siegrun

A 4 year boy in our club started playing chess for 3 months. Then, in his first simul, he beat a Master, who had just defeated almost all experts and class A players as well as all other players in the simul. Those sitting around him noticed that his father would tell him from time to time where to move, but the son would often ignore his father and make his own "accurate" moves. A couple of weeks later had this boy sit with a 2300 rated FIDE Master to play 1:1 and had his games reviewed by two GMs. They all believe that his God-given 'talent' has him as potential for the next World Champion, since he seems to have been given special "Chess talents" by God Almighty, who sovereignly gives gifts as He chooses. I know this reality contradicts what I am taught by so many of my teachers, but the proof is in the pudding. He'll still need to work hard to build his natural "talent", but he definitely has something majority of our club players do not. We'll now wait and see if he will grow the character needed to diligently study hard to enter the higher rated player's realm someday.
