Is the bonuspoint for speed a wanted feature? (Problems)

by Chris @, Friday, September 30, 2005, 11:52 (7141 days ago) @ Odd Gunnar Malin

I think your point is valid but I use the speed thing to help me cope with time pressure of a game. Even though I didn't think I had a problem with anxiety under time pressure I have recently tried playing games with no clock and found that I felt different i.e. no pressure. And noticed that without pressure my game improved. Personally, I don't care how many points I get because there's no loser in the tactics section. What I care about is practising lots of tactics and learning to cope with time pressure.

? One problem I have noticed by beginners ++ is that a move is made as soon
? as they see a tactical motive without more calculation. This is often when
? they try to play into the adult club after played blitz and rapid chess in
? youth club. Their 'combination' are refuted by the very first move of the
? opponent.
?
? I also notice this from myself that too much blitzing (on Chessservers)
? are reflected in moving too fast in a real game.
?
? I see that you get just as much points if you miss the correct move twice
? but get it correct the third time. This can't be right, in a real game you
? would have lost the game twice but won the analysis after the game:)
?
? My suggestion is to make the speed advantage smaler and the point for
? getting the move correct the first time higher. Alternative to a smaler
? speed bonus is to set the bonustime higher, the average move in a normal
? game is 180 sec. and when you spot some tactical motive that could end the
? game you can use at least more than 10 minutes on the move.
?
? To getting more experience for spotting the moment where there could be a
? tactical motive it could help to do some (a lot) easy problems with only
? one tactical theme.
